Ennis ISD School Safety and Security Committee
Purpose and Scope
The Ennis ISD School Safety and Security Committee is established in compliance with Section 37.109 of the Texas Education Code. This committee is dedicated to supporting the safety and security of all district campuses and facilities. Its purpose is to assist in the development and implementation of policies and strategies that promote the safety and well-being of students, staff, and visitors.
Committee Responsibilities
The Ennis ISD School Safety and Security Committee is tasked with:
- Developing Emergency Operations Plans (EOPs): Assisting in the creation and periodic review of the district’s multi-hazard emergency operations plans, ensuring alignment with state and federal guidelines.
- Conducting Safety Audits: Overseeing regular safety and security audits and providing recommendations based on findings to enhance the security of district facilities.
- Coordination with Law Enforcement: Facilitating communication and collaboration with local law enforcement agencies to improve campus security and law enforcement presence.
- Providing Recommendations: Offering guidance to the Board of Trustees and administrative leadership on best practices for safety and security.
- Community Engagement: Engaging with parents, guardians, and community stakeholders to foster transparency and build trust in district safety measures.
Committee Membership
Per state requirements, the committee includes representatives from various sectors of the community and district, ensuring diverse input and expertise:
- At least one representative from an office of emergency management within the district’s city or county.
- At least one representative from a local law enforcement agency, such as the police department or sheriff's office.
- A representative from the district’s police or security department, if applicable.
- The president of the Ennis ISD Board of Trustees.
- One additional member of the Board of Trustees, other than the president.
- The Superintendent of Ennis ISD.
- At least one of the Superintendent's designees, which must include a classroom teacher.
- Two parents or guardians of students enrolled in Ennis ISD.
- A representative from an open-enrollment charter school partnered with Ennis ISD, if applicable.
- Additional members as determined by the Superintendent to fulfill the committee’s purpose.
Meetings
The committee will meet at least three times each school year: once during the fall semester, once during the spring semester, and once during the summer. All meetings are open to the public to ensure transparency and community involvement.
