• Gifted and Talented Program

Ennis ISD identifies students who demonstrate potential for being more academically capable. Classroom teachers who have special training in this area serve these students. The students receive enriched instruction in the core curriculum areas (Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies). Nominations for this state-mandated program are accepted every year in the spring for grades K-12. Please contact the Curriculum Department (972-872-7042) for more information on this program.

Gifted and Talented Referral Timeline

  • The Gifted and Talented Program in Ennis is committed to meeting the needs of students who demonstrate above-average potential or achievement. We believe that all children are unique. All children have talent and different learning styles. We know that gifted children learn at different rates and may need different experiences in order to stimulate and maximize their learning.

Referrals for the Gifted and Talented Program in the Ennis Independent School District for the 2021-2022 school year will be accepted beginning Monday, November 30, 2020. Any student is eligible to be referred by a teacher, parent, or community member. This process includes multiple and specific criteria required by the Texas Education Agency.

Referral forms will be available Monday, November 30, at all schools in EISD. Forms can be obtained at the counselor’s offices. Referral forms are due by Tuesday, January 5, 2021.

Parents of kindergarten students who show a need for advanced academic services will be notified by mail in the spring.

Parents of students who show a need for advanced academic services in grades 1-11 will be notified by mail during the month of July (or after the state assessment scores are received by the district). If your child is in the GT program, they need not be referred again.  Current third grade GT students are automatically referred for re-identification in grade 4.

If you have questions or want more information about the Gifted and Talented program, please feel free to contact your child's teacher, principal, counselor, or Dr. Lacey Padgett, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, at (972) 872-7017.
